In music to "ritard" is to gradually slow the tempo. It works in life, too: do something wickedly wonderful that makes everything stop til you get yourself together. Laugh yourself silly and drag others along with you!
LOL I don't know about where you live, but around here there are actually people who rent out their flocks and herds to do this sort of thing. It's especially effective in naturalistic areas to keep the brush down.
