In music to "ritard" is to gradually slow the tempo. It works in life, too: do something wickedly wonderful that makes everything stop til you get yourself together. Laugh yourself silly and drag others along with you!

Unicorn at the Zoo by Pleated Jeans
Jeff Wysaski and his friends have a fabulous sense of fun. Might be the best exhibit at the LA Zoo, and I love that he prances everywhere.
