In music to "ritard" is to gradually slow the tempo. It works in life, too: do something wickedly wonderful that makes everything stop til you get yourself together. Laugh yourself silly and drag others along with you!
The flood in Minot made me more of a glub and gurgle-tard, but now that the river is slowly going back towards its banks I can see humor in things again.
